New Informatics@School Task Force in Switzerland

swiss_informaticsIn the context of a strategic initiative towards Informatics@School, the Swiss Informatics Society (SI) is collaborating with Prof. Alex Repenning. Prof. Repenning brings long-term experience in teaching Informatics from the US and now holds a privately funded Chair at the School of Applied Sciences and Arts, Northwestern Switzerland; he will lead a task force that aims to establish Informatics in schools. Prof. Repenning spoke at the CEPIS Council meeting in Geneva earlier this year.

3D programming environments may engage a significant proportion of the next generation of students in computer programming. With access to programming environments that are able to model interesting social, natural and imagined phenomena, Prof. Repenning believes that students are more likely to see computer programming as an essential skill for rendering their worlds.
