Lack of Digital Skills Impedes Company Performance per New EC Report

Digital technologies are inevitable and as of now, essential to the workplace. The European Commission’s final report of the study “ICT for Work: Digital Skills in the Workplace” presents updated data and information on the impact of ICTs in the workplace. For instance, the report reveals that nowadays 93% of workplaces use desktop computers and that the use of ICT in workplaces has increased by 90%. As a consequence, the lack of digital skills has now become a real impediment to the performance of a company. To cope with these issues, the report lists a series of recommendations on how to raise awareness about digital skills, promote education and training systems, favour partnerships and give priority to funding for digital technologies all of which participate to reducing the digital divide and putting ICTs at the heart of the workplace.
