European Commission Defines Minimum Security Requirements for IoT

European CommissionThe European Commission has published a report of the Workshop on Internet of Things (IoT) Privacy and Security. The workshop covered four IoT domains: wearables and smart appliances, connected/autonomous vehicles, industrial IoT and smart cities. The participants agreed on thirty baseline principles of security and privacy in IoT. Most of the principles, such as data control by the user, updatability, and encryption by default, apply to all four domains. The workshop also identified the need to identify, structure and address life cycles of products, stakeholders, data, and context.
