New Shared Concept Provides "How to Guide" for National Digital Skills Strategies

European CommissionIn accordance with the New Skills Agenda developed by the European Commission (EC), EU Member States have been called to create national strategies to improve the digital skills situation in their countries. The EC with support from experts has created a shared concept that pinpoints the main challenges and identifies best practices in meeting each challenge. It identifies four main target groups or challenge areas: 1) education, 2) citizens, 3) the labour force and 4) ICT professionals. Each area outlines specific challenges around which actions need to be taken, such as upgrading trainers’ and teachers’ skills, providing relevant digital skills training opportunities for all, improving the understanding and definition of digital skills, advocating ICT as a career choice, especially to young people and women, and ensuring certification and standardisation. The concept also stresses that sharing best practice is of paramount importance.
