European Parliament Stresses Importance of Trust and Security of Big Data

The European Parliament recently adopted a resolution on fundamental rights implications of big data: privacy, data protection, non-discrimination and law-enforcement. The resolution emphasises that people’s lack of knowledge about the nature of big data allows personal information to be misused and urges other EU institutions and Member States to concentrate their efforts on improving the digital literacy of citizens of all ages and raising awareness about digital rights, privacy and data protection. The resolution also points out that sometimes sensitive personal information can be inferred from non-sensitive data and strongly advises to address this issue.
