As part of celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome, the European Commission (EC) co-organised Digital Day on 23 March in Rome, Italy. The event gathered Member State ministers, high-level EU institution representatives and other key stakeholders to discuss Europe’s digital future. On digital skills, the EC announced its plan to develop a pilot project to provide 4 – 5 month paid internships in the digital field for young graduates, thus helping young people acquire both skills and work experience. Companies working in the digital field are encouraged to offer internships and train students.
The EC also presented an updated European Interoperability Framework for digital public services and launched a platform for digitising industry to connect national initiatives. Furthermore, European ministers signed a declaration to position Europe as a global player in high-performance computing.
